The Beginning of Your Future

The realization that ones academic career is ending can be a terrifying epiphany for many people. The hard work that has been put in during that individual’s time at a university starts to transform into tools that can be applied to finding a career that will be exciting and beneficial. However, this is a time of great self-realization and should be taken seriously since your future is solely up to the work that is put in.

The most important elements of entering the design field is being able to stand out amongst a group of people who are fighting for the same jobs. The main way that companies can get a sense of ones try identity is through seeing their actual work. Although it may seem obvious, this is an integral process that takes time and organization to achieve a successful result. Organization, which is an essential part of Building Design Portfolios by Sara Eisenman, is a key element of creating a portfolio because, oftentimes, there is no time to describe the rhyme or reasoning behind individual’s designs to a company. In order to achieve this, research different portfolios of professionals and learn what works best when designing your own.

There are many different places that are looking for designers but they will not reach out to you unless you take the initiative to do so yourself. Many websites exist that will direct users to find open design jobs and internships. Take advantage of these websites and keep in contact with whomever you come across. Although it may be frightening to realize that it is time to find a job, it is a time that allows individuals to grow and get the experience that is necessary to be a designer.
